Checking over a boiler

Is a boiler service worth it?

Your boiler works hard in the background to keep your home warm, usually without causing you any problems. When it’s working properly, it’s low maintenance, but what if something goes wrong? Repairs can be costly, and you’ll have to cope without central heating while it’s being fixed.

A gas boiler service includes inspecting and cleaning your boiler and central heating system. This ensures your system runs efficiently and catches potential damage you didn’t know existed before it becomes a costly headache.

All of this is essential to avoid any unexpected boiler breakdowns when you least want them.

How much is a boiler service?

Our standard fee for a one-off boiler service is just £99 (including VAT) for a mains gas or LPG boiler, excluding parts. Oil boilers are often more complex than gas boilers due to the components involved, so you can expect to pay slightly more for an oil boiler service at £125 (inc. VAT).

Our boiler cover plans include the price of a boiler service. Our cheapest plan starts at £8 per month with an annual boiler service as standard.

Your FAQs on gas boiler services

No doubt you’ve got questions about your boiler service. If you can’t find the answer in our FAQs, call our experts.

How long does a boiler service take?

The average boiler service takes under an hour. A straightforward combi boiler service typically takes 30 to 40 minutes, but a complex oil boiler can take longer.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Your boiler should be serviced at least once a year to keep it running efficiently. While your central heating service can be done at any time of year, we suggest doing it in summer so your boiler is in top condition for winter.

Does servicing a boiler make it more efficient?

Regular servicing extends your boiler’s lifespan and helps prevent costly breakdowns. It also ensures your boiler gets the most out of the gas you pay for, so you don’t waste money on unused gas every month.

Do they check radiators on a boiler service?

Radiators are not covered under our standard gas boiler service. If you think your radiators aren’t performing, call our friendly team for help.

Do I need an annual service for my boiler warranty?

Most boiler warranties require an annual service to remain valid. Missing a yearly service can sometimes void the warranty, leaving you responsible for repair costs that would normally be covered.
