Our engineers fit new boilers in homes like yours every day, giving us a unique insight into the boiler brands that are hot (and those that are a flop). If you’re in the market for a new boiler and want to know which manufacturer is best, you’re in the right place.
Our comparison of the UK’s best boiler brands considers real-world performance on a range of metrics that matter to you.
What makes a good boiler brand?
A boiler purchase is a big investment and one you’ll have to live with for at least ten years. So, before deciding which boiler brand is best, it’s helpful to think about what makes a really great boiler manufacturer.
Our engineers have a particular view on this because they’re often the first port of call when something goes wrong. We asked them what they think makes a good boiler brand – here’s what they said:
1. Reliability
The best boiler manufacturers consistently produce high-quality, durable boilers that perform well over time. Remember, it’s not worth saving on the upfront cost if it’s likely to mean more repairs later down the line.
A pro-tip here is to check the manufacturer’s warranty. Lower-value boiler brands tend to offer shorter warranties – a sure sign their boilers won’t go the distance.
2. Customer service
Brilliant boiler brands have friendly staff who offer great service and respond quickly. You can gauge this by reading about other people’s experiences on third-party review sites like Trustpilot. Additionally, ask family and friends who’ve recently had a new boiler fitted for their recommendations.
3. Energy efficiency
Most modern boilers are relatively energy efficient, saving you money on your heating bills and reducing your home’s carbon footprint. Look for a boiler that is ErP compliant. This EU certification proves a boiler meets the minimum energy-efficiency requirements for sale in the UK.

Worcester Bosch
An award-winning boiler brand (with a Royal Warrant, no less), Worcester Bosch is the UK’s leading boiler manufacturer with hundreds of thousands of customers. Its wide selection of boilers caters for all property sizes, including both oil and gas combi boilers and several larger system boilers in the Greenstar range.
Key information
Boilers: Combi, system, and regular boilers
Fuel types: Gas, LPG, and oil
Efficiency: ErP-compliant, most A-rated
Price: From £1198
Warranty: Up to 12 years’ warranty if certain criteria are met
Worcester Bosch is a leading name in boilers, and for good reason. They offer solutions for a wide customer base; their flagship Greenstar range covers everything from compact combi boilers – like the popular Greenstar 4000 – to powerful system boilers and oil boilers for those living off-the-grid.
In 2025, Worcester Bosch was crowned a Which? recommended brand for the 16th consecutive year, lauded for its reliability and excellent customer service.
Although Worcester Bosch is pricier than other brands like Ideal and Baxi, you can still find deals if you know where to look. With well-established aftercare and a huge network of approved installers across the UK, Worcester Bosch is hard to beat for long-term value.
Best for: Long-term dependability
Ideal
Whether you’ve had an Ideal boiler before or you’ve simply just heard it mentioned, Ideal is a revered name in the UK boiler market. It has a reputation for being cheaper than some of its rivals, with affordable models in the Logic and Vogue ranges. Combining performance with value for money, this British manufacturer is worth backing.
Key information
Boilers: Combi, system, and regular boilers
Fuel types: Gas and LPG
Efficiency: All ErP-compliant, many A-rated
Price: From £1216
Warranty: Up to 12 years’ warranty (if serviced annually)
When it comes to customer service, Ideal is up there with the best. With 77,600 reviews and a 4.8-star rating, they are among the top boiler manufacturers on Trustpilot.
We know their team can be relied upon, but importantly, so can their boilers. Ideal is known for its reliable everyday performance; perfect for family homes.
Popular models include the Logic² Max, Logicᐩ and the Vogue Max. What makes Ideal so… ideal is that their boilers come in a range of system types and power outputs, so there’s a budget-friendly option for every size of property.
Best for: British-made affordability
Vaillant
German-engineered and made in Derbyshire, England, Vaillant boilers combine precision with innovative technology (or Vorsprung durch Technik, as they say in Germany). The Audi of the boiler world, Vaillant boasts some of the quietest models on the market, recognised by their Quiet Mark certification.
Key information
Boilers: Combi, system, and regular boilers
Fuel types: Gas
Efficiency: ErP-compliant, most A-rated
Price: From £1,491 (combi-boiler)
Warranty: Up to 10 years’ warranty if certain criteria are met
While Vaillant may have Quiet Mark certification, the brand offers more than that alone. For one, the boilers have a sleek, modern design – a bonus if it’s on show – but if you prefer to have your boiler hidden away, the ecoFIT pure is small enough to fit inside a kitchen cupboard.
When it comes to customer service, they have a 4.6-star rating on Trustpilot (across 23,000 reviews). Impressively, they also hold a ‘Trusted Service Award’ on Feefo in recognition of their excellent customer service.
Vaillant’s smart systems are also worth mentioning. Its heating controls are WiFi connected, allowing you to manage your heating with precision through the MyVaillant app. It can even make micro-adjustments to your heating depending on the weather that day.
Best for: Premium engineering that lasts
Baxi
Baxi is our final manufacturer on this list of the highest-grossing boiler brands in the UK. Another British brand to rival Ideal, Baxi is known for its compact combi boilers. They also offer a selection of system boilers (gas and LPG), and they’re the only one of the ‘big four’ to offer an all-electric boiler.
Key information
Boilers: Combi, system, and regular boilers
Fuel types: Gas, LPG, and electric
Efficiency: ErP-compliant, most A-rated
Price: From £741
Warranty: Up to 10 years’ warranty if certain criteria are met
Calling Baxi cheap and cheerful would do this brand a disservice, but its boilers are certainly affordable, and they are highly rated for their service. Of the top four highest-grossing boiler manufacturers, Baxi has the most Trustpilot reviews (78,000) and an average star rating of 4.6.
With a 150-year history – the company was established in 1866 – Baxi is more than capable of competing on the big stage with stalwarts like Worcester Bosch and Vaillant. Their boilers are a known favourite of heating engineers because they are straightforward to fit and parts are easy to source.
While some value brands use plastic components, Baxi boilers use full brass hydraulics for wear resistance and long-term durability. This approach to making a solid product at an affordable price is what stands out.
Best for: Smaller properties where space is limited
The alternative smaller boiler brands
Outside of the top four, there are plenty of other lesser-known boiler manufacturers with a lot to offer. We work with Alpha and Grant to fit affordable boilers in homes where budget and reliability are a priority.
Alpha
Although the Italians acquired it in 2020, Alpha started here in Britain. It might not be one of the top four highest-grossing boiler manufacturers, but don’t dismiss it too early (its parent company is a large multinational).
Alpha’s bijou range of combi, system, and regular gas boilers is available in various outputs to suit most properties.
- Prices start from £650 for a supply-only combi boiler
- Approved by Good Homes (the ETec Plus NX)
- 10-year warranty with the option to upgrade to 13 years
- Robust build with high-end parts
Their marketing budget might not match that of Worcester Bosch, but Alpha doesn’t skimp on build quality. Their boilers have a stainless steel heat exchanger (vs the traditional aluminium) and zinc-plated, anti-corrosion casings.
All this for a low entry price point may leave you wondering if this is too good to be true? Are there any downsides? The interface might not look as good as other boilers, and it doesn’t have a brand personality to match Vaillant, but if you can see past this, Alpha is a great alternative for budget-conscious homeowners.
Grant
Grant specialises in oil boilers, competing directly with Worcester Bosch’s Heatslave II and the Danesmoor models. As a company, they invest heavily in renewable energy solutions, with air source heat pumps, hybrid, and solar a big part of their offering.
- Prices start from £1460 for a heat-only oil boiler without installation
- Award-winning heat pumps (The Energy Awards)
- Up to 10 years’ warranty when fitted by an approved installer
- Credible competitor to the Worcester Bosch oil boiler range
It would be unfair to judge Grant on its Trustpilot summary as it has a much smaller sample size than the top four; however, it does have an average 4-star rating. Customers praised the office staff’s helpful attitude and the noticeable difference in heating efficiency.
Alongside Worcester Bosch, we install Grant oil boilers for our customers who don’t have a gas central heating system. Our engineers say their oil boilers are straightforward to fit and easy to maintain, though they should still be serviced annually as with a gas boiler.

Which boiler brands should I avoid?
No one wants to be at the bottom of the league table, but sadly someone has to be. In the case of boiler brands, it’s Ferroli and Vokèra. Both manufacturers are Italian, so perhaps it’s no surprise that sourcing parts for repairs is the number one source of frustration for heating engineers.
- Ferroli: According to the Which? boiler brands 2025 survey, Ferroli scored low in both customer satisfaction and engineer feedback. Engineers reported poor build quality and difficulty sourcing parts for repairs.
- Vokèra: Appearing near the bottom of the same Which? league table, Vokèra was rated poorly for its build quality. Its long-term reliability and manufacturer support were highlighted as issues.
The message seems to be that if something goes wrong, you’ll have to wait longer for parts. Perhaps the Italian boilers just aren’t up to the job of surviving a UK climate.
How to choose a boiler
Ultimately, the right boiler is the one that most comfortably fits your circumstances. Above all, you need a system with the capacity to meet your heating and hot water needs, so start by narrowing down the type of boiler that can do this.
If you’re looking for a like-for-like replacement, the process is straightforward. However, if you’ve made changes to your home (an extension, for example), you may need to transition to something with a greater capacity.
Your local heating engineer can offer valuable advice on the right type (combi vs system vs regular boilers) and power output for your home.
You should also consider any dealbreakers on your must-have list, because they will rule out a lot of brands.
For example:
- What fuel type do you need? Not all brands offer oil boilers, for example.
- Do you need your boiler to be compatible with solar panels?
- How important is appearance? Will your boiler be on view or in a cupboard?
- If you’re planning to have it in a cupboard, what dimensions does it need to be?
- How important is it for you to be able to control your boiler remotely?
Once you’ve ruled out the brands that don’t offer what you need, you should be left with a list of credible suppliers that you can compare like-for-like. This is where the boiler brands go head-to-head on factors such as reliability, customer service, and energy efficiency.
If you’re toying between two boiler models from two separate manufacturers, the final call may come down to the installation expertise in your area.
Our final pro tip is to look for an approved installer for the brands you’re considering and see what deals are available. Many approved installers offer interest-free credit on new boilers from partner manufacturers.
